On Letting Go of Negative Feelings of Yourself

As women, we take on so much. We take on the past, present, and futures of ourselves and our family’s trajectory and often the burden of all these influences can be overwhelming. Long gone are the days of waking up and wondering what you’re going to do today. Instead, waking up can bring a sense of panic of all the things that have to get done, all the things that won’t get done, and all the things you want to do for yourself that you will once again put on the back burner. Sound familiar?

Of course it does! First step in all of this is to acknowledge it. It’s not about what is normal or not, it’s about accepting what your current reality is. Are you feeling: isolated? Overwhelmed? Under water? Unsure of who you are? Unhappy?

Whenever you start feeling these feelings, identify it. Take a pause and tell yourself, “in this moment, I am feeling overwhelmed.” Let that acknowledgement sink in, then ready yourself to change your mindset. “What is happening around me is not what is happening inside of me” is a great mantra to repeat to yourself. While you cannot control what is going on around you, you can give energy to how you respond to it. Because those things around you are happening, whether you like it or not. But those negative feelings you have are not a foregone conclusion.

Incremental change is the name of the game. Is it sexy? Nope! Is it easy? Definitely not. But can you do it? Yes, yes you can! Small steps toward more neutral responses to external triggers can slowly move you into a better mindset about life. These little steps lead to more mental breathing room. You will be able to take on your daily routine with ease, you will be able to set healthy boundaries, you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror and feel respect and joy for the body and life that you have.

You can achieve this freedom! You deserve to be free of the negative feelings that swirl around in your head everyday. You are worth the time to get back on track in your headspace so that you can be the successful you that you know you can be. Try these two mantras when you start to slip into negative feelings and see how you can start to adjust your inner you regardless of what is happening around you.
